The Atlantic Immigration Program is a key initiative designed to help employers across Canada's four Atlantic provinces —
Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador,
and Prince Edward Island — fill positions they have been unable to staff locally. This program aims to attract skilled foreign nationals to the Atlantic Canada region, addressing the employment needs of local businesses and supporting community growth.
The Atlantic Immigration Program empowers designated local employers to identify, recruit, and retain top global talent. It is integral to the Atlantic Growth Strategy, which focuses on five critical areas:
- Building a skilled workforce and promoting immigration
- Fostering innovation
- Supporting clean growth and addressing climate change
- Enhancing trade and investment
- Developing infrastructure
How Does the Atlantic Immigration Program Work?
This employer-driven program facilitates the hiring of skilled foreign workers. To qualify, principal applicants must secure a job offer from a designated employer and have an individualized settlement plan for themselves and their families.
Employers seeking to hire under this program must first obtain a designation from the relevant province(s). For those with operations in multiple provinces, a separate designation is needed for each location. Can Heaven Immigration Inc. is here to guide employers through this process. Once a designated employer finds a suitable candidate, they must extend a job offer. Notably, the Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) is not required under this program. After the candidate accepts the job offer, the employer must connect them with a designated settlement service provider for a needs assessment and develop a comprehensive settlement plan. Employers are also responsible for supporting the long-term integration of the new immigrants and their families into Canadian society.
For employers needing to fill positions urgently, the program offers a temporary work permit. Candidates will need:
- A valid job offer
- A letter from the province
- A commitment to apply for permanent residence within 90 days of the temporary work permit application
