Home Child Care Provider and Home Support Worker Pilot Programs
The Home Child Care Provider Pilot and Home Support Worker Pilot programs are designed to replace the former Caring for Children and Caring for People with High Medical Needs Pilots. These initiatives offer eligible caregivers a clear path to permanent residence in Canada, provided they have two years of Canadian work experience.
To qualify for these pilot programs, caregivers must have a valid job offer in Canada
and meet the following requirements:
- A Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) of 5, demonstrated through language test results.
- At least one year of Canadian post-secondary education or its equivalent from abroad.
- Eligibility to enter Canada.
Caregivers already working in Canada on a work permit who meet these conditions can also apply for permanent residence under these new pilots. Each pilot program will accept up to 2,750 principal applicants per year, totaling 5,500 applicants annually.
Key benefits of these pilot programs include:
- Occupation-specific work permits, allowing caregivers to change jobs quickly if needed.
- Open work permits for spouses or common-law partners and study permits for dependent children, so families can join the caregiver in Canada.
Additionally, employers hiring caregivers from overseas are no longer required to obtain a Labour Market Impact Assessment.
